ANTIQUE MILITARY TYPE COPPER AND BRASS BUGLE JOHN GREY AND SONS LONDON - NO MOUTHPIECE

THIS IS AN ORIGINAL ANTIQUE MILITARY TYPE BUGLE MADE BY THE JOHN GREY & SONS LONDON. THE BUGLE IS MADE OF COPPER AND BRASS AND IS IN OVERALL GOOD WORKING CONDITION.

John Grey is a trade mark and is NOT a person. John Grey& Sons Ltd. was a subsidiary company of Barnett Samuel & Sons which started life in London in 1832 for the making and selling of banjos, bugles, guitars and drums and used the name as a trademark on its instruments.
In 1928 Barnett Samuel & Sons was bought by British Equity Investment Co. Ltd. The instrument part of the company was contained in just 8 shares of the John Grey & Sons Ltd and these were bought by Rose, Morris & Co. Ltd. who made bugles and banjos up to and after the second world war. The company was bought by Grampian Holdings Ltd in 1960 and continued to produce bugles and  banjos labelled "John Grey". From 1967, the company started selling it's own products and just use the trademark "R.M" from Rose Morris. Rose-Morris are today a large musical department store.
The exact age of this bugle is not known, but estimated to be 1940's or possibly somewhat earlier.
Size: 29CM LONG 18CM HIGH 10CM DIAMETER BUGLE FRONT END
Condition: IT HAS ONE MEDIUM SIZED DENT AND A FEW SMALLER ONES ON THE COPPER PART.
IT DOES NOT HAVE A MOUTHPIECE BUT THESE CAN BE BOUGHT RATHER CHEAPLY. NOT FULLY TESTED BUT IT IS AIRTIGHT AND SEEMS TO BE IN WORKING CONDITION.
