On sale is part of a collection of Minerals and Gemstones called Treasures of The Earth sold between 1995 -1999. A tray contain twenty different Minerals and Gemstones (Gemstones are minerals used to make jewellery) from around the world in their individual perspex cases. Ideal for collectors, students, budding geologists, etc. CONDITION: Some scratches and Perspex cases cracked but overall everything is in good condition. Interesting minerals in this tray (see additional photos). 1. Pyrite: Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster. The name "pyrite" is after the Greek "pyr" meaning" fire." This name was given because pyrite can be used to create the sparks needed for starting a fire. Pyrite has a nickname that has become famous- "Fool's Gold." The mineral's gold color, metallic luster, and high specific gravity often cause it to be mistaken for gold by inexperienced prospectors. 2. Hematite: Hematite is the most important ore of iron. The mineral is used to produce pigments. I was once mined at thousands of locations around the world 3. Rose Quarz: Rose quartz is the name used for pink specimens of the mineral quartz. It is abundant, common, and found in large quantities at numerous locations around the world. Pink transparent quartz is rare, but found in several locations around the world. 4. Topaz: Topaz is a rare silicate mineral. It is best known for three things: 1) being one of the world's favorite colored gemstones; 2) being "mineral number 8" in the Mohs Scale of Hardness; and, 3) being a birthstone for the month of November. 5.Schorl: Also called Black Tourmaline. It forms beautiful chrystals and is one of the most aesthetic black minerals known. 6.Amethyst is the world's most popular purple gemstone. It is the purple color variety of quartz and has been used in personal adornment for over 2000 years. SEE MY OTHER ITEMS. MAYBE CAN SAVE ON POSTAGE BY COMBINING ITEMS.
