Made in South Africa for a brief period between 1976 and 1982, Bartholomina Dolls have become a favourite among serious collectors. They mostly came in kit form and were made in limited numbers. (Some 300 & others 500 - after which the moulds were destroyed.)
In 1976 Carolyn McSweeney(Metcalfe) started a small family business, Bartholomina Dolls.
Bartholomina Dolls were made from earthenware by Carolyn and her sister Jenny Ferreira (Metcalfe). Their neice made 3 of the dolls in this series. A further series of 5 name dolls plus a doll to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the 1820 settlers in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, followed.
This is the miniature family of five dolls, assembled but not dressed. They were all manufactured in 1979, except for Dad, being manufactured in 1978. They are in excellent condition. Includes:
