Offered for sale is a striking and unusual miniature Chinese ink pot or brush pot of the type used by scholars decorated with a well modeled salamander lizard in high relief. The ink well is porcelain with an octagonal shaped base and octagonal top aperture with ribbed convex sides. The pot is glazed in a pale mustard/ochre colour with dark umber brown accents, A salamander amphibious lizard is modeled in high relief and attached to the sides of the pot. The base has Qing dynasty marks hand painted in cobalt blue underglaze. The ink pot is probably mid to late 19th or early 20th Century Daoguang or Hongxian period,
