The Suzuka 8 Hours was (and still is) the most important race of the year for the Japanese marques, and Honda twice created a superteam with its leading bike being shared by its top 500cc and World Superbike riders: Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards. At the 2001 Suzuka 8 hours, everything came together for Rossi and Edwards on the Cabin sponsored VTR 1000, and the pair led home a Honda 1-2, narrowly defeating the pairing of Barros and Okada by just 14 seconds. We were a little surprised when Minichamps originally announced Rossi’s Suzuka bikes, as it meant investing in completely new tooling for just two new subjects. It shows just how committed Minichamps is to completely covering Valentino’s two-wheeled career, so credit where it’s due!
