A mobile golf course with 8 holes. May also be referred to as a putt-putt course. This golf course has 8 holes and each hole is approximately 6meters long and 1,5meters in width.
The golf course can be used to activate an in-house team building exercise, social activity with employees or a year-end function that does not require relocation of employees to another venue. The golf course may be set up inside an office building.
Logistics
To move the course from point A to point B requires a double size trailer that can be rented (thus no need to own one) and is then towed with a bakkie. The owner of the course would need 2 men to assist with the loading and off-loading from the bakkie to the venue where it will be utilised. Setup time at the venue is approx 3-4 hours which would entail matching the predetermined pieces and using a staple gun to secure sections of a hold together.
The make-up of each hole
The golf course is made up of 8 holes. Each hole has about 2 to 4 parts. Each piece is made of wood for the base, velt material (green colour) and small wooden blocks which creates a forest like look and feel. Each hole has other characteristics such as a sand bunker which is filled with real sand that can be purchased or beach sand can also be used, a water hole which is painted blue to provide a real effect of water and forestry on the sides to keep the ball from rolling off the edges.
The idea
The idea is very fun and simple and does not require alot of supervision when in activation.
Firstly, each hole can be named after a product for which the company is participating. In the photo, this activity was run for General Motors South Africa. Each hole was named after a vehicle such as Isuzu, Cadillac, Hummer etc. Each hole was located within a particualr department such as the Isuzu hole was located in the Accounting department. Each department was encouraged to decorate the hole in order to create more team spirt and fun activity. This decoration takes approx. 1 hour.
Once all the holes have been decorated, all participants are then required to gather into one hall space. Each person is grouped into teams 10-15 depending on the number of participants in total. Each group is provided with 2 putters, 2 golf balls, a score card and pencil. Each person will fill in their own name on the score card and keep track while playing the game. For example, group 1 moves to hole 1 and group 2 moves to hole 2 and so on until the hole 8 / group 8. A shot gun approach is used, so that everyone is playing at the same time. The activity takes approx. 2 hours for each team to move through all 8 holes.
This activity can be used for up to 120 people at a time.
At the end, all participants are required to hand in their score cards and join others for a lunch. Once the lunch is complete, all participants then join together in the hall for a prize giving. Prizes can be given away for the best dressed, worst dressed, best golfer, worst golfer and best decorated hole.
