Modern German Art
'Pelican Special Edition'
by Peter Thoene
Penguin, 1938, paperback, 108 pp. plus 4 pp. adverts
Condition: this amazingly preserved copy (86 years old!) is in very good condition for its age - the text is clean and the binding still firm, and the black-and-white illustrations are situated between pages 64 and 65. Please note that the illustration pages have suffered the effects of image offsetting, with brown, sepia-like toning being transferred onto the opposite pages. The covers are still in good condition with bright blue colour, the front cover fore-edge suffering light abrasion, and the spine is faded. A very scarce title in this condition.
Translated from the German by Charles Fullman
Introduction by Herbert Read
Chapters include: New Vistas and Inherited Forms, Truth, Science and Nature, Precursors, Simultaneous Trends and Impressionism, Bridges, Der Blaue Reiter, The Abstract and the Super-Concrete, Limitations and Possibilities.
