Modern Heroes 7-Book Pack

Modern Heroes' is a series of modern and colourful hardcover books about the lives of remarkable people whose influence has shaped how we live today.

The seven books in this collection looks at the lives of the following people: Anne Frank; Mohammad Ali; Mother Theresa; Martin Luther King; Pope John Paul II; The Dalai Lama; and Gandhi.

Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank was a German-born diarist. One of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust, she gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl, in which she documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. It is one of the world's most widely known books and has been the basis for several plays and films.

Muhammad Ali  born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr (1942-2016) was an American professional boxer and activist. He is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century. From early in his career, Ali was known as an inspiring, controversial, and polarizing figure both inside and outside the ring.

Mother Teresa (1910-1997) known in the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta was born in Macedonia and was inspired to go to India and live and work among the poor. This book is ideal as an introduction to Mother Teresa's life. Inexpensive, it is ideal to help with school project work. Gary Smailes is an experienced, bestselling, writer of history for children and the younger reader.

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954 through 1968. He is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, tactics, his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi helped inspire.

Pope John II - part of the Modern Heroes series - is ideal for school projects for young readers. Modern Heroes is a series of colourful, illustrated books about the lives of some remarkable people whose influence has shaped how we live today. Concise, accessible, entertaining, the series are excellent introductions to history or modern studies. Pope John II was born in Poland and lived in Nazi-occupied Poland in World War II. He became a priest and was well liked for his easy manner and faith. He became Pope in 1978 and remained so until his death in 2005.

The Dalai Lama is a Tibetan monk who was born a leader of his people. Despite having to escape from his own country, because his life was in great danger, he has dedicated himself to peace and freedom for his people. The Dalai Lama is the most important person in the Buddhist religion. Buddhists believe that each time the Dalai Lama dies, his spirit lives on and is reborn in another body. There have been 14 Dalai Lamas so far. Today the Chinese are in control of Tibet and the Dalai Lama lives in exile.

Modern Heroes' is a series of modern and colourful books about the lives of eight remarkable people whose influence has shaped how we live today. This book looks at the life of Gandhi.
