MOLDAVITE 30.68 cts - exceptionally rare - not from "Earth"...

This amorphous tektite is found only in one area of the Czech Republic. Moldavite was created 15 million years ago but it's true origin is a mystery. It was formed from the impact of a meteorite melting surrounding rock when it "hit" earth. It is also considered to be "extraterrestrial". Moldavite has always been accorded special significance. Medieval references to the Holy Grail being a stone that fell from heaven has led some to identify Moldavite as that much sought-after relic.

Moldavite is green tektite that was originally created from meteorites impacting on the Earth's surface, and thus melting themselves with the Earth on impact. This is the resulting reformed natural glass material - part Earth, part space. No two pieces will be alike! Common alternative name is Valtava.

Larger pieces of Moldavite are rare.

Most Moldavites have pitted, rippled or cratered surfaces and form extruded, teardrop or pebble shapes.
