"Moldavite is a rare, olive-green to dark green, glass-like gemstone formed from a meteorite impact. It is a type of tektite and is believed to have been created about 15 million years ago during a massive meteorite impact in what is now southern Germany, known as the Nördlinger Ries event. The heat from the impact melted the local terrestrial rocks, and the resulting molten material was ejected into the atmosphere, where it cooled and solidified into glass, forming moldavite."
