Money in South Africa- Engelbrecht

A must have book for collectors of Coins, Tokens or Bank Notes and even people just interested in General South African History

Published once in 1987 only and extremely hard to find

Author C.L.Engelbrecht was until his retirement in 1984 a Manager for Volkskas Bank

Published at a time when South African Coins were not encapsulated yet and far more affordable. It was possible to get together the rare issues outside of capsules so as to give collectors a view of the depth of our Collectible History. This is no longer possible as many of the items are dispersed into collections. This type of book can never be repeated therefore.

Packed with detail and covering the period from when Man used items to barter through to early Cape Coins (VOC - 143 years) , Batavian Republic and British Occupation, Griqua Money, Banks and Notes , Patterns , ZAR money ending with the famous Veldpond in 1902, Union Money, Tokens in place of small Change and finally Decimalisation with the Republic formation.

There is just nothing that comes close to this book in being comprehensive. It is primarily informative and doesnt mention price of items.

Pictures are both in colour and black and white.

Hard Covered Coffee Table Size with small corner scuffs- no dust cover . Inside Perfect.
