The Monroe Shock Absorber Tester is a cordless, hand-held diagnostic tool for measuring the performance of individual shock absorbers. It helps a workshop move beyond simply checking for leaks and gives an objective reading on whether a shock is worn and due for replacement. The unit installs in seconds, tests all four corners of a vehicle in around 5 to 7 minutes, and produces a clear result for each wheel.
The tester measures the vertical movement of the vehicle's sprung mass, using both the damping ratio method and the rebound (bounce count) method. The two readings are combined to rate each shock absorber, removing the guesswork from a visual inspection. The unit is self-aligning and identifies its own orientation at the start of every test.
