THIS IS A FRAMED PRINT OF SALVADOR DALIS MOST MONSTROUS WORKS CALLED THE ENIGMA OF WILLIAM TELL SPAWNED OUT OF HIS UNCONSCIOUSNESS IN 1933.
 
A dream landscape and a monstrous creature; unstable, fragile, in the midst of his vigour. The deformed body is propped up with crutches and the watch - time - is melting. The freedom-fighter Tell (his name given in left corner) is also a political figure, with face and cap culled from the communist leader Lenin. Dalí claimed after all that the artist's main task was to paint in riddles.
 
THE STORY IS A MODERN RETELLING OF THE BIBLICAL SACRIFICE OF ISAAC BY HIS FATHER ABRAHAM. DALÍ TAKES THIS AGE-OLD TALE FURTHER YET WITH A DECIDEDLY FREUDIAN BENT. HERE, THE MAN IS HOLDING A BABY, AND THE BABY HAS A LAMB CHOP ON ITS HEAD.

WELCOME TO THE WEIRD AND WONDERFUL WORLD OF SALVADOR DALI
DALI PRODUCED PAINTINGS THAT MADE HIM THE WORLDS BEST-KNOWN SURREALIST ARTIST. SALVADOR DALÍ MADE PAINTINGS, SCULPTURES AND FILMS ABOUT THE DREAMS HE HAD. HE PAINTED MELTING CLOCKS AND FLOATING EYES, CLOUDS THAT LOOK LIKE FACES AND ROCKS THAT LOOK LIKE BODIES. THESE MYSTERIOUS AND WEIRD IMAGES WERE INCLUDED IN SURREALIST SHOWS IN MOST MAJOR EUROPEAN CITIES AND IN THE UNITED STATES AND EVEN TODAY MANY PEOPLE INSTANTLY RECOGNISE HIS WORK.
Nine months before Dalí was born, his older brother Salvador passed away from a stomach infection. His parents named Dalí after him and due to his eerily similar appearance, his parents told him when he was five years old standing over the grave of his brother that he was his reincarnation. These ideas of reincarnation and references to his older brother permeate Dalí's works, suggesting that it had a big psychological impact on him.
Surrealist artists were influenced by a famous psychoanalyst called Sigmund Freud. A psychoanalyst is a doctor who studies the human mind and tries to understand it. Freud believed our mind was divided into two parts: the conscious part and the unconscious part. The conscious mind is what we use to make decisions every day, like whether we walk or ride a bike to school. The unconscious mind is where our memories are stored. Most of the time we are not aware of our unconscious mind, but sometimes the memories stored there get mixed up in our dreams and this is what Dalí tried to paint.
WHILE DALI WAS A DEFINING FIGURE OF SURREALISM HE WAS EXSPELLED FROM THE SURREALIST MOVEMENT IN 1934 -
HIS FEUD WITH ANDRÉ BRETON, THE LEADER OF THE SURREALIST MOVEMENT AT THE TIME, AS WELL AS HIS GLORIFICATION OF HITLER'S GERMANY AND NEUTRAL STANCE AGAINST FRANCISCO FRANCO EVENTUALLY LED TO HIS EXPULSION FROM THE GROUP, HOWEVER, HE CONTINUED TO BE FEATURED IN THEIR EXHIBITIONS.
DALI STRUGGLED WITH MENTAL ILLNESS THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE, AND HE WAS KNOWN TO HAVE PARANOID DELUSIONS AND HALLUCINATIONS. HE ONCE SAID, "THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME AND A MADMAN IS THAT I AM NOT MAD."
DALI'S DISTINCTIVE MUSTACHE WAS A KEY PART OF HIS PUBLIC PERSONA, BUT IT DISAPPEARED SHORTLY AFTER HIS DEATH IN 1989. TO THIS DAY NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO IT.
