Powder compacts, I have no expertise in, so please bear this in mind when reading the description. This item has the feel and look of the 1920’s to me, but I have no other evidence to offer in support of my theory. The lid is covered in attractive mother of pearl square “tiles;” twelve in all. The metal part appears gilded. When the lid is opened, the inside reveals a mirror, and another hinged compartment, housing the powder and the puff. The hinges appear well made, as found on early items of this nature. It is small - roughly the size of a Victorian visiting card case. I have been unable to find a manufacturer’s mark anywhere on it. It measures 6cm by 7cm, but is heavy for such a small item. Please add R28 for postage.

George was extremely learned about the items he sold, and his detailed item descriptions were a lesson in history. It was a pleasure to deal with him.
