These two-way radios are ICASA approved and LEGAL for use in South Africa. Don't get caught by unscrupulous sellers who are selling non-ICASA approved equipment that might cause interference with essential services and could lead to huge fines and confiscation of your radios.
Also, don't fall for inflated claims of how far these radios can communicate. Here's the NO-NONSENSE real information about radio communications distances:
1) Any two-way radio CAN cover 25km or more, but ONLY under very specific circumstances. In perfectly flat terrain distances of around 10km are common, and if one of the radios was (for example only) inside a Boeing 747 at 30,000 feet almost any two-way radio would be able to cover a distance of around 250km! That doesn't mean that YOU will get these distances in spite of what some people claim.
2) In normal operating conditions, reliable communications distances are seldom better than 2 to 3 kilometers. In very hilly terrain, ANY two way radio will struggle to reliably acheive even 500m.
3) Using a two way radio inside a car is even more limiting because of the shielding of the car body.
These Motorola TLKR-T5 radios are sold as a pair (ie: 2 radios) together with a dual charger that will charge both radios. A rechageable battery pack for each radio is included.
My honest opinion of these radios: These radios are great for using between cars in a game reserve, for keeping the kids entertained, for keeping in contact with family on the beach or at a flea market, or for adjusting your TV antenna for best picture. They are NOT professional or industrial radios. If you're looking for a reliable radio for your neighbourhood watch, for security, for control of your business etc. these are NOT the radios you need.
These are consumer radios, which are not meant to be repaired if they break. While the Motorola is, in my opinion, the best quality product in it's class, they are not rugged enough for professional use.
