DESCRIPTION | A WOODBLOCK PRINT DEPICTING AN ELEPHANT HUNT by listed South African artist MOTSHILE NTHODI (b 1948). The print was done in two colours on special paper and it is mounted, protected by glass and framed in a black frame which shows the work to it's best effect. The artist has signed the artwork in pencil at bottom right, dated it (19)76, numbered it 12/20 and titled it 'Hunters' at bottom left. The artwork measures 600 x 760 mm in the frame and the artwork alone measures 430 x 610 mm. You can see this lovely woodblock print as it is sold in the image above. There are more images and further particulars below. Please have a look at them and ask a question if there is anything you are unsure about. |
CONDITION | Both the artwork and frame are in good condition. There is some creasing and folding of the special paper the print is done on, but this lends to it's aesthetic effect rather than detracts from it. |
A really beautiful and typical South African artwork produced by one of our country's foremost woodblock artists who studied at the Ecole Art Visual in Geneve, Switzerland and specialises in woodblock prints depicting the cultural tradition of the Ndebele, Shangaan and Napadi tribes. He is also a book illustrator and the author of the book 'From the Calabash'. MOTSHILE NTHODI's art has been displayed at a large number of exhibitions locally and in countries such as Switzerland, Holland, Brazil, West Germany and Swaziland. His woodblock prints can be viewed in art museums in South Africa such as that of UNISA and the Pretoria municipality and he is also represented in several important private collections. If you are interested in the artwork on offer here you could research the artist on the internet where he is listed on sites such as artprice.com. Not only is this artwork a truly representative local item and an asset to any collection of South African art - it is also a nice investment item.
