"Moulin Rouge!" is a 2001 musical romantic drama that tells the passionate and tragic love story of a young poet, Christian, and the star courtesan, Satine, set against the vibrant backdrop of the Moulin Rouge nightclub in 1899 Paris.
The film begins in 1900, where Christian, a young English writer, reflects on his past in the bohemian district of Montmartre, Paris. A year earlier, in 1899, he arrives in Paris to pursue his dreams of becoming a writer and to embrace the bohemian ideals of truth, beauty, freedom, and love. He soon meets a group of eccentric performers, including the famous painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who are working on a musical called "Spectacular Spectacular" for the Moulin Rouge, a lavish nightclub known for its extravagant performances and hedonistic atmosphere.
