Whenever I read reviews of recordings of the 6 String Quintets by Mozart, or hear these pieces reviewed on the radio, this recording by the quintet led by Arthur Grumiaux seems to top the poll, even with competition from more recent recordings. Having enjoyed these performances since they were released in this 3 CD format two decades ago, I am not surprised that the experts assess them so highly. The other members of the Quintet are Arpad Gerecz, Georges Janzer, Max Lesueur and Eva Czako.The sound on this Philips recording is still clear and bright and the playing exemplary. The set comes with an informative booklet.
