Gypsy pirates from outer space release their second album.
The theme is there in the title. The latest batch of songs from cult heroes Mr Cat and the Jackal tell stories of bad deeds and the temptation of good men. The band produces thrilling songs of sweeping drama and engaging theatricality.
The opening instrumental Avarice gives way to the brimstony tango The Devil Always Wants to Dance.
Theres a retelling of Noahs story later with The Rain Came Pouring (The Flood Pt 1). Here though, the good man and his brood get ambushed by pirates and the wreckage of the ark is left smoking on the opening seas on The Spawn of Pirates (The Flood Pt 2). Just so you know what kind of album this is.
The band members are a bunch of talented seadogs and play many, many different instruments, but always allowing the songs space to breathe.
The band doesnt flirt with different styles, really; more like they have passionate, tender but slightly kinky one- night stands with them.
There are many Rs on the album and youll notice each one of them as the vocalists roll the hell out of them. Ghaaarrrr! Zane Henry
