  • MATERIAL: Hand-blown clear glass with internal GOLD AVVENTURINA (copper flake) inclusions.

  • DESCRIPTION: A stunning three-piece collection of vintage Venetian glass fruit. This set features the highly technical AVVENTURINA method, where copper filings are suspended within the molten glass to create a brilliant, metallic shimmer.

  • INCLUDED PIECES:

    • CLUSTER OF 3 CHERRIES: Features three shimmering globes joined by a clear glass stem and a textured leaf.

    • APPLE: A classic weighted sphere with a detailed ribbed leaf. The glass exhibits a beautiful gradient of gold suspension.

    • LEMON: A highly tactile piece with a "crackle" effect exterior, mimicking the rind of a citrus fruit, accented with a clear glass leaf.

  • CONDITION: All three pieces are in excellent vintage condition. Note: The apple contains a "cloudy" or "seedy" area of concentrated crystals; this is a natural occurrence in the AVVENTURINA cooling process and is a characteristic of handmade Murano glass rather than a defect.

PERIOD: Circa 1950s1960s. STYLE: Mid-Century Modern / Venetian Art Glass.

  • DIMENSIONS: * CHERRIES: 12cm x 6cm.

    • APPLE: 7cm x 8cm (5cm base).

    • LEMON: 12cm x 5.5cm.

      **PRODUCTION TIMELINE & CLUES

      • 1950s - 1960s (The "Golden Age"): This is the most probable window for your set. During this time, the "Tutti Frutti" and "Cordonato d'Oro" (gold-ribbed) styles were at their peak. Your pieces, with their heavy copper-flake concentration and textured surfaces (like the crackle lemon), are classic hallmarks of 1950s/60s Venetian craftsmanship.

      • The "Crackle" Lemon: This specific texturing (often called ghiaccio or "ice glass") was a popular technique used in the 1950s to add a realistic, organic feel to the glass fruit.

      • The "Cloudy" Apple: The "seedy" or cloudy effect you mentioned is also more common in Mid-Century pieces. Newer reproductions (1990spresent) tend to use more refined chemical processes that result in a very uniform, almost "perfect" glitter, whereas vintage pieces show more character and internal variation.

      ATTRIBUTION

While many pieces were sold with only a small paper "Murano" sticker that fell off over time, the quality of the gold suspension and the weight suggest they were produced by one of the major island furnaces. ALFREDO BARBINI is the most famous maker associated with this specific aventurine fruit style, though several other high-quality furnaces (like Fratelli Toso) produced similar designs to meet the high demand of the export market in the 60s.
