Murashige and Skoog Medium, commonly abbreviated as MS Medium, is a plant tissue culture medium that is widely used in plant science research and plant biotechnology. It was first developed by Toshio Murashige and Folke Skoog in 1962 and has since become one of the most popular and versatile plant tissue culture media. MS Medium contains a balanced mixture of essential nutrients and vitamins, that promote the growth and development of a wide range of plant species in vitro. It is commonly used for micropropagation, callus induction, somatic embryogenesis, and other plant tissue culture applications. The composition of MS Medium can be customized by adding or omitting specific components to suit different experimental needs.
