While technicallynot a muscle car, it is the very definition of a pony car: The 1965 FordMustang nailed it with the right combination of punchy American pushrod V-8horsepower and European-influenced sports car styling. This scaled down yetfaithful version captures what made the Mustang great inside, outside and evenunderneath. The long-nosed fastback styling looks quick even small, and thefull wheelcovers with race-inspired knock-offs complete the illusion of astreet car in race clothing.

Under thecompound-hinged hood is a detailed facsimile of the light yet potent 289 cu inV-8 that helped make the Mustang a runaway hit. Flip the car over and a fullsuspension with 2-into-1 single exhaust is there in detail. That this versionof the car made an appearance in a fastback roundup on the April 1965 Road& Track magazine cover alongside a Plymouth Barracuda and AMC Marlin speaksof the instant and enduring success of the first generation Ford Mustangaformula still successful today, and well-executed in this model.
