This is an animated classic with a solid storyline and good moral lessons, as well as great songs and brilliantly attractive animation. It features voice actor megastars such as Cathy Cavadini (Blossom in The PowerPuff Girls, Tanya Mousekewitz in the American Tail movies) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson and Rufus in Kim Possible), as well as a stellar cast of well-known screen actors.
The little ponies related to their audience by teaching good values, self-esteem and confronting weighty moral issues like peer pressure and ostracism. The film's lead, a baby pony called Lickety Split longs for her independence, away from the adult world of rules and judgement. Along with her best friend Spike, the baby dragon, she sets out alone on an adventure that proves more perilous than she could have imagined.
Meanwhile, the rest of Ponyland is threatened by a vicious purple sea called the Smooze, created by the witches of the dark mountains, in an attempt to make the countryside as "dark, dank and dreary" as their own home (and their personalities). It is up to the ponies and their human friends, Meagan and her siblings, to keep their spirits up and find a way to combat this magical menace. Their quest takes them to the eccentric Mr Moochick in his home the Mushrump, and all the way to the mythical Flutter Valley, to ask for the help of the Flutter Ponies, a delicate and beautiful race of fairy-ponies.
