Tragedy turns to triumph

My Moquini is a self-published book written for her three children who have played an important part in the book.

Her eldest daughter Jenna has written the Foreword to the book while her second daughter Sarah created the stunning cover. Her son Ryan’s voice, she says, “can be heard throughout the book”.

Writing her story began as Karen spent many hours in the night awake and alone, and thinking.

It was at this time that she tried to make sense of the tragedy and the loss that she and her family were faced with.

Karen’s loss had become a loss of her identity and her self. And she had to rediscover her self. She did this by writing.

My Moquini was born out of her desire to make sense of the loss she experienced and find new meaning.
