My Mother Didn't Raise Me Up

When we got to town, they told me to go buy ice cream for myself. As I entered the shop they drove off. 

Abandoned at seven years, Lethabo had to make her own way in the world. Her father had disappeared; her mother was interested in her boyfriend and gambling. 

When it was dark, I realised she was not coming back to fetch me to go back home with her.

Alone and scared, Lethabo has to rely on the kindness of strangers, however kindness often comes at a price.

As she grows into a young woman, Lethabo encounters a series of people and events that make her question her faith, humanity and even her own existence.
