Peter H. Lee (editor), Myths of Korea. Compiled by Seo Dae-seok.  Seoul: Jimoondang Publishing, 2000.

Hard cover, dustwrapper, original cloth, 247 pages, plates.

In fine condition.

'Comprised of seven foundation myths, ten shamanist myths from the Korean mainland, and nine shamanist myths from Cheju island, Myths of Korea presents twenty-six myths in accurate and readable translation, mostly for the first time in English. To make them more easily understandable to the general reader, these myths have been rewritten according to their central narrative plot. The corpus assembled here holds out manifold possibilities for future researcha comparative study of myths in general and shamanist myths in particular.
Seo Dae-seok is professor of Korean literature at Seoul National University where he received his Ph.D. He is the author of Studies in Korean Shamanist Songs, Structure and Background of Military Tales, and Studies in Korean Myths.
Peter H. Lee is professor of Korean and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has received his graduate degrees from Yale and Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich. He is the author or editor of some sixteen books, including Sourcebook of Korean Civilization (2 vols., 1993-96) and The Record of the Black Dragon Year (2000).'
