Nadat Uys Krige lank in Europa rondgeswerf het, keer hy in 1935 na Suid-Afrika terug en in 1939 reis hy na Lesotho en die Malutiberge in die geselskap van drie skilders: sy broer Francois, Walter Battiss en Terence McCaw. Sy gesprekke met sy metgeselle en sy indrukke van die landskap, ast ware sy ontdekking van n deel van Suid-Afrika, publiseer hy in n reeks artikels in Die Brandwag. Hierdie is n stuk reisverhaal soos wat net n skrywer van formaat kan oordra en dokumenteer.
