Nasturtiums are grown as summer annuals in South Africa and grow well throughout the country as long as they can be watered regularly and are planted in full sun. They will tolerate some shade but may not flower as well. They are hardy to moderate frost and in frost-free areas.

The whole plant is edible, from the flowers to the leaves and is packed full of flavour and beneficial vitamins and minerals. The flowers have been used as a garnish for many years, but there are many other ways you can cook with nasturtiums.

The vibrant flowers make a great addition to salads, wraps, smoothies, and soups. Nasturtium leaves and flowers also make a tasty medicinal tea.

Nasturtium flowers are edible! They have a peppery taste and are a good source of Vitamin C and Iron. The name nasturtium means nose twister in Latin.
