On offer is a lovely group of family medals - father & son. First group is a WW1 Trio awarded to Richard William Cooper. He was a farmer from Pietermaritzburg who attested into the 10th S.A.I on 17.01.1916 as a Pte. with No. 8738. (WM & VM) marked accordingly. He had served as a Trooper with the 1st Mounted Rifles during the G.S.W.A campaign, being active from 22.08.1914 to 23.07.1915. (1914-15 Star marked accordingly). While serving with the 10th S.A.I in East Africa, he contracted malaria at Kalossa and after repeated attacks was forced to return to the Union on 21.12.1916, finally being declared medically unfit and discharged on 26.02.1917. Medals come with original envelope and copy of service records.

His son, Desmond Lancelot was just 17 years old when he attested into the S.A.A.F. as an Airman with No. 544146 on 29.05.1942. He served within the Union and with several squadrons in Italy as an Armourer before being discharged on 29.01.1946. Medals include 1939-45 Star/Italy Star/WM & ASM. Copy of service papers included.
