I am very proud to offer on auction here what is with out doubt the most complete collection of personally signed documents and related items regarding the past State Presidents of the Republic of South Africa.
The collection was formed over many years by one of South Africa’s foremost collectors, Dr D. “Heilige Dawid” de Villiers, Minister 1944-1965, later Professor and Dean of the Theology Department at the University of Stellenbosch (1966-1984) and past President of the South African Numismatic Society.
The collection spans 4 decades and includes both private and official documentation that relates to the following State Presidents (and Prime Ministers where applicable): C.R. Swart, Jim Fouche, N. Diederichs, Marais Viljoen, P.W. Botha and F.W. de Klerk.
There will be two or more lots of various items per President offered plus the star item we offer here as a kick off with this auction being the following: Republic of South Africa Constitutional Bill // Ontwerp Grondwet van die Republiek van Suid Afrika. 71 pages. Personally signed by P.W. Botha 16 May 1983. It is said that there are only 4 copies in private hands of which one was offered in 2005 on Bid-or-Buy for R18 000.00
