It is found in 1500 meters height of the central plateau of Madagascar, growing in pure quartz sand. Needs some water and lots of sun. The swollen stems can grow up to nine centimetres in diameter, and reach a length of 30 centimetres. The flowers are yellow. There are over 2000 species of Euphorbias in the world. They range from annual weeds to trees. They all have latex and a unique flower structure. A significant percentage is succulent, but they are mostly originating from Africa and Madagascar. The Euphorbias are named after a Greek surgeon called Euphorbus.
