A book written by a man who made one rugby union appearance for England (against Scotland in 1874). Born in 1854, Henry Anderson Bryden travelled widely, and wrote several books about hunting and natural history. This book deals largely with his observations of and hunting of birds and mammals in southern africa.

Octavo published 1897 by Chapman & Hall, Ld. Original red cloth with stamped gilt titling on the spine and front. The spine is sunned, with fraying starting at the head of the spine. This copy lacks the front endpaper, and has a bookplate of the British South Africa Company affixed to the front pastedown. 314 gilt-topped pages including index, fore edges rough cut.
