Naturecraft “Siesta” Ref No.821 Hand Painted Stoneware 1972 – Congleton, England

The “Siesta” is a wonderfully and incredibly detailed figurine made by Nature Craft of Congleton, England. I believe this description to be correct: "Hydrocal Stoneware, developed by Nature Craft from alabaster is a hard substance specially adapted to fine modelling, colour and detail.”

Each piece is hand painted. On the bottom are several symbols in squares please see photos as well as a “REF No 8215”, “REG (the copyright symbol) 1972”, “HANDPAINTED STONEWARE”, the company name “NATURECRAFT CONGLETON ENGLAND” and the “crown stamp”.

The Naturecraft Ltd. Company was founded in 1931 in Congleton, Cheshire, UK. It was one of Congleton’s oldest companies, and was headed until its buyout by Managing Director Peter Tomlins. Naturecraft England originally produced figurines such as dogs and other animals, as well as caricatures and other wall art. All items were originally made in the UK.
