Natures Aid Serrapeptase tablets are enteric coated to allow them to pass safely through the stomach before dissolving. The enzyme is described as a proteolytic enzyme and as such is able to digest certain types of protein. Amazingly, the enzyme only attacks certain forms of dead tissue such as cysts, arterial plaque and scar tissue. Studies have also revealed powerful anti-inflammatory effects of this enzyme without the inhibitory effects on prostaglandins (localised hormones) exhibited by pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory drugs.

It helps with pain reduction by blocking the release of pain-inducing amines from inflamed tissue. This makes Serrapeptase an ideal choice for use with sports injuries, traumatic swelling and post-operative swelling. Serrapeptase also seems to exert a positive effect on areas where excessive mucus may be a problem improving the health of the respiratory tract in susceptible individuals.
