A pointed cross constructed of silver, the obverse centre bears a gilt lion passant (the emblem of the South African Navy) on a navy blue enamel, the reverse bears the pre-1994 South African coat of arms, the 6 oclock arm engraved with the decoration number 37, suspension bar is attached to cross, marked SILVER on reverse, measuring 45.3 mm (w) x 59.77 mm (h), weighing 35.2 g.
