London. 1968. Hutchinson., 1968. 1st Ed. XIX, 252 pg. with 2 maps and 17 figures, plus 16 pages with 24 b/w photos. Fp: Puffin during tests carried out by the author (in colour). Eps: Map of the North Atlantic with tracks of the English Rose III and Puffin. Hard cover, Wrapper is Near fine. - Failed attempt in 1966 to row the Atlantic from the Chesapeake to UK.   >>>   A very good detailed study of a failed Atlantic rowing crossing; one of the first two attempted in 1966. This gives a very clear picture of how difficult it was to organize an ocean expedition, the difficulties of the boat design, the inability to estimate the affect of the current on progress, and shows the severe impact of bad weather. David Johnstone seemed to lack a daily discipline for forced rowing which left the pair with a very extended crossing time and constantly running short of food.   (Goodreads)
