Ndebele Initiation Traditional Dolls

The Ndebele Initiation Doll is made in the traditional dress of a married woman. The style of the apron worn over the doll signifies that she has a child within the marriage, and it symbolises her status as a parent.

The Ndebele people are among the smallest tribes in Southern Africa, but are easily one of the most colorful and distinctive.
In addition to strengthening the Ndebele cultural identity, the beaded Ndebele dolls are now an important and much needed source of income for the Ndebele woman.
