Art Academy" for the Nintendo 3DS (released as Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone! in North America and New Art Academy in Europe) is a drawing and painting simulation that teaches users real-world art techniques. It uses the console's stylus and touchscreen to simulate realistic art tools and materials.

The software functions less like a traditional "game" with a storyline and more like an interactive training application. The overall experience is described as relaxing and soothing, guiding users through the fundamentals of drawing and painting at their own pace. 

Key Features

• Structured Lessons: The core of the game is its lesson mode, where an in-game tutor named Vincent guides you through various techniques step-by-step. Lessons cover a wide range of skills, from basic shading and perspective to more advanced methods like watercolor and oil painting.
• Realistic Tools: The game simulates a variety of art materials, including:
• Pencils
• Colored pencils
• Pastels (in New Art Academy and Lessons for Everyone!)
• Paints (oil and watercolor)
• The software is designed to replicate the feel and behavior of these tools on different types of virtual paper or canvas.
• Free Paint Mode: After completing lessons or at any time, users can access a Free Paint mode with an unlimited blank canvas and full access to unlocked tools. This mode allows for independent practice and creativity.
• Reference Images: For practice, users can select from built-in still-life images or even import their own photos taken with the Nintendo 3DS camera to use as reference material. Some reference images in New Art Academy are presented as subtle 3D videos, like a tree with moving leaves, to help with observation.
• Sharing and Gallery: Finished artwork can be saved, framed, and displayed in an in-game 3D art gallery. Users could also share their creations or even custom-made lessons with friends via local wireless or the now-defunct SpotPass feature.
• 3DS Functionality: The game makes use of the 3DS's dual screens (reference on the top screen, workspace on the bottom) and the stylus for precise control. The 3D feature is primarily used for viewing the gallery or certain reference images.
