Tetragonia Tetragonioides, also known as New Zealand Spinach, is a flowering plant, but mostly cultivated as a leafy vegetable. Its natural habitat is sandy shorlines and bluffs. The plant has a trailing habit and forms a thick carpet on the ground or climb through other vegetation and hang downwards. The leaves of the plant are 3-15cm long, triangular in shape, and bright green. It thrives in hot weather and is considered a heirloom vegetable. Few insect consume it, and even slugs and snails do not seem to feed on it.
