| Notes: | The British South Africa Company formally occupied Mashonaland on 13 September 1890. The obverse design is taken from a drawing in the publication: 'The British South Africa Company Historical Catalogue & Souvenir of Rhodesia, Empire Exhibition, Johannesburg, 193637. It shows the Pioneer Column in full dress parade and the British flag being hoisted by Lieutenant Edward Tyndale-Biscoe at Fort Salisbury. The site became the future Rhodesian capital, Salisbury (now Harare in Zimbabwe). |
