The Nikon FM2 is a compact professional 35mm SLR that that is renowned for its robustness, reliability and ability to withstand extreme temperatures. The FM2N ("New FM2") was the last and most desirable version, with a higher 1/250" flash sync and shutter speeds from 1" to 1/4000" plus Bulb.
This one is in excellent condition and appears to function perfectly. The film advance is smooth, the shutter release crisp, the frame counter resets and advances correctly. All shutter speeds sound right, and the light meter agrees with my professional Gossen meter. The viewfinder is bright and the depth of field preview and self timer work correctly, as do the the film rewind and film loading door latch. A flash (not included) mounted on the hot shoe fires when the shutter is released. The cosmetic condition is good. Some of the paint on the back has worn away, there are minor scratches on the bottom and minor finish marks on the chrome that are visible under close inspection. There are no dings, dents, gouges or signs of abuse. The leatherette is in excellent condition and does not feel sticky.
I shot a film with this camera, using the camera's internal light meter to set exposure. Everything worked properly and the negatives are well exposed, the individual frames are correctly spaced and show no signs of a light leak or fogging. The film loaded, advanced, rewound and unloaded correctly. I have not tested the camera with a motor drive.
Since cosmetic condition is subjective, please judge for yourself from the detailed pictures, which are of the actual item for sale. Note that the "N" in front of the serial number identifies this camera as an FM2N, not the earlier "plain" FM2.
