No 1 Fighter Squadron SAAF Xmas Card 1943 , original, 14.8 cms x 9.8 cms, gatefold, cord, condition: very good.
The printed text on the two pages inside the card is signed 'Harry'. With the card comes a newspaper clipping with portrait image, of Major Henry Gaynor who was OC No 2 Fighter Squadron, SAAF when he was kia on March 3rd 1944 over southern Italy.
The newspaper portrait image was taken by Leon Levson, a renowned Johannesburg based portrait photographer who later became internationally known as a photographer of the origins of the migrant labour system and growing urbanisation in South Africa, Levson passed in 1958.
Harry was 27 years old when he passed. He is buried at Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio.
