Norah Wellings worked as designer at Chad Valley, until she set up on her own in 1926. This is a South Sea Island, boudoir doll: she was made to sit on a lady’s dressing table. Boudoir Dolls were fashionable from the 1920’s to ’40, so I think it fair to assume she dates from around that period. She has the typical inset, side glancing glass eyes of a Norah Wellings doll. She has her label attached to her foot, but even without it, she would’ve been easy to identify. Because she was made to sit, her torso finishes at her midriff, with her feet attached to the inside of her dress. She has a swivel head. She has lost the beads to her right earring, and there is a scuff mark on her left cheek and the tip of her nose. She is free of any moth damage. Stretched out, she measure 38 cm.
