North Lincoln Sphinx

"The North Lincoln Sphinx" originally produced for the entertainment of a battalion of men stationed on the Eastern Cape border, has with the passing of time, become a piece of rare and valuable Africana. It depicts the communal life of soldiers posted to a strange country for the protection of the white farmers settled on the border, agaisnt hostile native tribes. Stories, essays and poems mingle with reports of sporting events, garrison news and happenings at home in Britain.This edition is a reprint no. 21 from The State Library, 1968, Pretoria. A Regimental Periodical 1860 - 1862. Original was compiled from original papers, furnished principally by The Officers And Men of the Second Battalion of the Tenth or/of North Lincolnshire Regiment of Foot. This reprint was produced from masters produced on a "Xerox 914" and printed on a offset press. Only a few copies of the periodical can be found.
