DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION
DESCRIPTION

A post 1933 (WWII) blackened brass hat or pith helmet badge of the NORTHERN RHODESIA REGIMENT backed with the regimental colours in felt. The badge measures 3 x 3.5 cm and the whole item measures 6 x 3.5 cm. The badge is supplied with a letter which was found with it and which states that it was worn in WWII in North Africa and in Burma, where the owner was with the Rhodesian Engineers. You can see the item in the image above and there are further images below. If interested, please have a look at the images and ask a question if there is anything you are unsure about.

CONDITIONThe badge is in excellent unworn condition and there is some moth damage to the white of the regimental colours which can be seen on an image below.
NOTES

This is a scarce badge, particularly the one in blackened brass. Before WWII (in 1938) the total White population of Northern Rhodesia consisted of only 20000 people and the Northern Rhodesia Regiment consisted of only 20 European and 401 African troops. The Regiment joined the South African forces in the East and North African campaign during WWII and also fought in Burma.

The item on auction here is a lovely authentic badge and it has a provenance. It is supplied with a letter (which came with the badge) stating that the badge was worn in North Africa and in Burma during WWII, where the owner worked with the Rhodesian Engineers. An image of the letter is shown in the last image below.

Front of badge

The Northern Rhodesia Regiment badge with felt regimental colours you are bidding on.

Back of the badge

The back of the badge and regimental colours. Note some moth damage to the white felt.

This letter, which states that the badge on offer here travelled to North Africa and afterwards to Burma with the Rhodesian Engineers during WWII, is supplied with the item.

Northern Rhodesian soldier

This is what the soldiers of both the Northern and Southern Rhodesian Regiments looked like during WWII. They also wore felt hats instead of pith helmets on occasion.
