About the Book
In this penetrating work, Dr. Milton L. Miller a Harvard-trained psychoanalyst applies Freudian principles to the life and writings of Marcel Proust, revealing how the novelists unconscious drives shaped both his art and his existence. Nostalgia traces Prousts introspective journey through memory, fantasy, and repression, showing how his psychological conflicts were sublimated into the creative act of writing À la recherche du temps perdu (Remembrance of Things Past).

Millers analysis explores Prousts use of symbolic memory, his peculiar relationship with illness, and the integrative process by which emotional pain is transmuted into aesthetic achievement. Without resorting to technical jargon, the author illuminates the deep emotional logic behind Prousts obsessive self-examination and the timeless resonance of his artistic vision.

Lucidly written and sympathetic in tone, the study bridges literature and psychoanalysis, demonstrating the continuity between Prousts personal neuroses and his genius as a psychological observer.
