As a result of progressive embargo on Zimbabwe and Germany’s pressure on the German G&D printing company to discontinue support to Zimbabwe, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe had no alternative but to issue bank notes stored in their vaults waiting for the hyperinflation to be controlled. These expensive full fledged secure bank notes Z$1-Z$1000 were released in 2008 (but dated 2007). The ongoing rampant hyperinflation soon required higher denomination notes. Zimbabwe’s high quality long fibre cotton was used to now produce local bank note paper. Extra security feature is the use of optically variable ink for the top right denomination.
