First published 1998 by Edward Gaskell, hardcover. The jacket is whole, with some edge wear and a few small tears. There is an inscription on the inside front board. All pages are otherwise clean and unmarked, except for some very mild and very limited spotting. "On Saturday June 21st 1947 Christopher Pantall set sail for South Africa in order to secure a new life as a farm manager. He could not afford the fare on the ship across to Durban so decided to 'work his passage' - looking after the cattle which were being exported to Africa. A farmer offered Christopher a place to live at Cato Ridge in the Natal Province, while he found work."
