African Hunter Guide to Nyati: The Art of Hunting the African Buffalo
Published by African Hunter, 2003. hardcover, illustrated, 384 pages, 15.7 cms x 22 cms x 3.5 cms, some edgewear to dust jacket, otherwise condition: new.
One of two must have's (books) before hunting buffalo.
"Prior to my first trip to Africa in 2005, I read and studied "Perfect Shot", and when I got my shot from 40 yards at a nice trophy buffalo with an open-sighted double rifle, I did place a perfect shot for a one-shot kill. However...had I known a bit more about sizing buffalo at a glance, I may have been a bit more patient and held out for a 40"-er. My guide, Don Bauer, was a contributor to this book (Nyati), being friends with the author and several of his pictures appeared in it. I was given a copy as a gift from Don before leaving camp, and read it straight through. It's a wealth of information and very well illustrated, with examples of buff from a variety of angles with size estimates on all. By the time I'd looked at it a few times, I would certainly have called my buffalo closer to the 37" he was than guessing him bigger. (They do look big in person!) It is a bit rare these days as well, but if you can get hold of a copy, do so if you plan to shoot in Africa."
