Eagles Nest built in 1938 for Hitler's 50th birthday, 1834 meters above sea level.
On the Obersalzberg, 1,640 feet (500 meters) above the town (linked by a cable railway), were the chalets of Adolf Hitler, Hermann Göring, Martin Bormann, and other Nazi leaders, with air-raid shelters, barracks, and various installations.
The premises except for the Kehlsteinhaus were heavily damaged by an Allied air raid on 25 April 1945.
